Guided Tour of the Atelier and Aveiro – University Fernando Pessoa

From Open Lecture to Studio Visit

After architect Maria Fradinho was invited by the University Fernando Pessoa for an open lecture in November 2025, we now welcome architecture students to the Frari studio.

A visit to showcase the daily life of the studio, the team dynamics, the work processes, and the real challenges of architectural practice. It was a pleasure to open the doors of Frari and share this experience with future architects.

Following the visit to the studio, we took a short tour of three examples of architecture and urban rehabilitation in the city of Aveiro.

The visit began at the old Railway Station, with a rehabilitation project by Architect João Mendes Ribeiro. We then went down Lourenço Peixinho Avenue, stopping to visit the rehabilitation of the Edifício Avenida –  the former Cinema and Theater building – where the bookstore Bertrand is now located, with a rehabilitation project by architect Paulo Lousinha. The visit ended at the Atlas Building, designed by Architect Fernando Távora and rehabilitated by Architect Bernardo Távora.

The objective was to showcase the strong commitment to the rehabilitation of Aveiro’s built environment, with these three iconic buildings being beautiful examples of successful rehabilitations that greatly benefit the city.

At Frari, we believe that architecture is about more than just buildings – it’s about creating spaces that reflect the needs, inclusion and identity of those who inhabit them. And when women lead, we create more human, innovative and balanced places.
