A&A Apartment

This project involves the interior transformation of a 2-bedroom apartment located in Vila Nova de Gaia, in a privileged location overlooking the mouth of the Douro River.
The order called for the inclusion of curved lines in the furniture design and the use of colors that would make the space livelier and more youthful, in detriment to the classic proposal planned for the property.
Given the location, the chromatic inspiration refers to the blues and greens of the ocean, with each compartment admitting a specific tone, always within the same harmony of tonalities.

The proposal developed proved to be strictly functional, in terms of the distribution of spaces, since the challenge of including two workspaces in areas that were already very restricted, made the proposal’s organic nature more difficult.
The direct connection between the entrance hall and the kitchen was eliminated, making way for a more welcoming and inviting hall that, through a piece of furniture with a curved finish, allows and invites visitors to discover the office corner that precedes the living room.
This office, clad in natural-toned wood, aims to be a comfortable space, but permeable to the living room, ensuring a view to the glass window over the river.

In the corridor, a play of lights and mirrors was provided for the expansion of space and reduction of the notion of its length, leads to the two bedrooms, one with office furniture that can be converted into a guest room, and the master suite, with a small closet that precedes the bathroom and separates it from the bed area.
The choice of coverings was carefully monitored by the Owner, whose personal taste for textures and colors was decisive in the final decision.

The precision of the herringbone wooden floor, the carpentry, the furniture and the lighting make this project an uncomplicated and light intervention, but with soul. A challenging game of making a simple architectural composition versatile and unique, through an economical but competent proposal.
